Granny Squirrel Community is a 300+ acre wooded development accessed by several miles of private roads. We are a covenant-protected community consisting of over 50 homes, along with many undeveloped lots.

Recreation

Whether driving or hiking, Granny Squirrel Community has many beautiful scenic views including creeks and a waterfall. A clubhouse is available for property owners to enjoy. It is a great place for movie-nights, watching ball games, picnics, meetings, and other community activities.

Area & History

Granny Squirrel Gap is in the scenic mountains of western North Carolina. It runs between the Snowbird Mountains and the Valley River Mountains, just northeast of Andrews NC. According to Margaret Walker Freel’s book titled Our Heritage, there once lived a Cherokee Indian woman named Squirrel. As she grew older, the Indians named this area Granny Squirrel Gap out of respect for her.

The community of Granny Squirrel Gap is sometimes referred to as GSMC (Granny Squirrel Mountain Club Homeowners Association, Inc.). More often, it is simply called "Granny Squirrel" although that is technically the area on both sides of the highway northeast of Andrews.

Safety

A Neighborhood Watch program is active in the community, plus we have individuals that periodically patrol the neighborhood for additional security and visibility. All residents are asked to notify the sheriff's office if observing any suspicious activity.
